The Vancouver Province this month published an editorial urging Ottawa to modernize single-game betting legislation within Canada. According to statistics provided by the Canadian Gaming Association, only $450 million of the estimated $10 billion spent by Canadians on sports betting is done legally, while $2 billion to $4 billion is wagered in the so-called “grey zone of internet gambling sites”.

Reflecting on the numbers, the Province notes: “In the modern era, with the chance of rigging profession-al games virtually impossible, the laws against single-game bets have become archaic and paternalistic ghosts of yesteryear. It's time for change.”
